Every Boston Baby knows–there is no such thing as cold weather–just inappropriate clothing. Get the gear that will make you and your little one enjoy the winter.
Don’t let the weather wear you down. While the chill of fall and looming winter months can be daunting, the city serves as a great place to entertain even the most bouncing baby and tenacious toddler!
Plan an indoor activity, such as an art project or testing out a tasty new recipe, or hit one of the many museums or free activities taking place in town.
Stay tuned as Boston Babies continues to send along fun filled activities for the whole family.
See Below for 5 Suggestions on How Best to Beat the Winter Blues:
1. Don’t Worry about the Weather
While you may fear the winter weather, try to resist the urge to stay inside.
The city has so much to offer even during its colder months.
Boston Babies’ Best Bet:
Bundle up and hit the park and then come home to cuddle with your favorite book on the couch. The Greenway, Christopher Columbus Park, North End parks adjacent to the Mirabella Pool, playgrounds on the Esplanade near the Mass. Ave. Bridge as well as the one next to the Museum of Science are some of Boston Babies’ favorite green spaces.
2. Treat Boston as if You were a Tourist
Hit a museum–or if you are already a member–make sure you take full advantage of any free or promotional events that the museum offers.
Boston Babies’ Best Bet:
The New England Aquarium, Museum of Science and Children’s Museum are always top destinations on Boston Babies’ list. Watch a seal training at the NEAQ, hit an educational Omni show at the MOS or enjoy live music at the Children’s museum. Remember to check the hours of operation and the events for the day.
3. Stick to a Schedule
Keep consistent with your eating/napping schedule to help alleviate tantrums, especially with your “terrible two’s.” Meltdowns can be challenging on the best of days, but when the weather forces you indoors, close quarters and tantrums can make for a very fussy family.
Boston Babies’ Best Bet:
Make a delicious breakfast before heading out for the morning. Whether your day includes playing at the park, hitting a museum or spending time outside the city, an adventurous morning will create an exciting and active day for you and your Boston Baby. Enjoy a good lunch out before heading home for a *hopefully* restful nap. Relax by spending the afternoon indoors, reading and cooking a new culinary creation for dinner.
4. Explore Outside the City
With so much stimuli to keep kids busy in town, parents often forget about all the hidden secrets that surround the city. Take time to explore the outskirts of Boston.

Bundle up your baby and head to Maudslay State Park to let your tot explore the wonder of the woods.
Boston Babies’ Best Bet:
Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the serenity of Maudslay State Park or take a drive to Natick to hit the shops and end at Zaftigs for a delicious deli lunch, located conveniently across from the mall. Or head to the North Shore Mall for some more shopping, then continue down Rt. 114 to Richardson’s to indulge in ice-cream and converse with some cows!
5. Research a New Restaurant
Test out your taste buds on a new foodie find. With so many incredible restaurants in the city, you should not settle for the same old place. Push past your own comfort zone and encourage your Boston Baby to explore and appreciate other ethnicities through food.
Boston Babies’ Best Bet:
China Town is a hidden jewel, offering cheap finds for great food. Kaze Shabu Shabu offers a culinary experience, Ginza is great if you are craving sushi, or Montien for your Thai food noodle fix, Pho Pasteur for soups and Penang for a Malaysian mixture of veggie, meat and fish options. Tantric, in Boston’s theatre district, will spice up your senses with delicious Indian dishes, while Addis Red Sea in the South End will enable your family to eat with their fingers! Falafel King opened a new location on Washington Street and even offers food as you place your order. All of these venues are family friendly and expose your little one to new tastes and interesting experiences.

Hi Boston Babies,
Thank you so much for mentioning Christopher Columbus Park and its Tot-Lot as a destination. I’m a volunteer for this Park and we work very hard on keeping it a desireable place to visit. Our volunteer group, Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) : http://www.foccp.org and face Book page Friends of Christopher Columbus Park – put on a number of family/child-oriented events in the Park during the milder months. Please check our FB page and web-site for all the happenings. It’s a jewel of a place. Right near it, on the other side of the Marriott Long Wharf, is a new restaurant which actually caters to children right down to having newborn formula and made-on-the-premise baby food. It’s fabulous and such a treat for moms. City Landing – ask for the children’s menu. You will be amazed!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. It is my pleasure to include Christopher Columbus Park in one of Boston Babies’ “favorite” spots to enjoy with the whole family. As a resident of the North End for over 13 years, I have enjoyed the neighborhood as a college and graduate student, a newly wed and now as a mother. The city offers so many wonderful opportunities for families, and I cannot say enough great things about the green spaces, specifically the CCP. Please feel free to keep Boston Babies updated on any and all events and activities taking place. Wishing you and a happy and healthy holiday season…Nicole Witkov, Founder of Boston Babies.
Thank you …. will keep you up-dated when we start putting on celebrations/fun stuff in CC Park. Happy & healthy holidays to you and yours and here’s to a fabulous 2013 for all!
