Music is an important tool that parents use to provide children with entertainment, education and an appreciation for the arts at a young and influential age. Exposing your child to different genres of music from rock to reggae, classical to nursery rhymes, is a wonderful step in fostering one’s development. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that music may improve mood and provide other emotional benefits for both children and adolescents.
Sing-A-Longs & Lullabies For The Film Curious George, by Jack Johnson features music designed to educate children on recycling (“The 3 R’s”), sharing (“The Sharing Song”), making friends (“We Are Going to Be Friends”), school (“Jungle Gym”) while also taking a broad look at the world and children’s role in it (“My Own Two Hands”). This is a favorite among families because the music is soothing and has a very melodic way of relaxing both babies and parents, while also educating and speaking on a very basic fundamental level to children and their growing needs and concerns.
In addition to some other family friendly cd’s (listed below), Pandora serves as an excellent way to encourage “music mayhem!” Simply tune in to Pandora and pick your song or artist of choice and allow it to provide you with an eclectic and improvisational mix of music.
For a station devoted to Disney, type in “Under the Sea” and plan a “Disney Dinner” for your little one this evening. If your munchkin wants to practice her diva dance moves, type in “Lady Gaga” and prepare to dance the day away (although some of the songs/artists that are created from this choice may not be the most Mommy/Daddy approved!) “Coldplay” is a great option when you are looking for alternative music and light rock to shake things up, while “Pachelbel” always produces a relaxing composition of classical musicians to calm your baby during bath time and prepare him for a soothing sleep.
Enjoy the next musical masterpiece you and your little munchkin compose and take time to check out some other family favorites listed below:
