At times I feel that the role of “parent” should be most suitably played by a Dr. Seuss character…
Perhaps The Cat in the Hat…
Can’t you see her juggling the diaper bag of supplies and gear,
Her stroller and car seat, the pacifier near.
Her baby cook cooker and organic foods too,
Her breast pump and notes from all the mothers she knew.
Her book of “how tos” or maybe “how nots,”
Her sleep training guide and pediatrician’s best thoughts.
Or maybe the role should be given to the wondering, contemplative, yet confused nome like fellow in Oh The Places You’ll Go!
Traveling down winding roads,
Dodging all the diaper loads,
Struggling through sleepless nights,
Having many marital fights,
Deciphering between baby cries,
Worrying about baby’s growth size.
Wondering if, as a parent, he’ll actually succeed,
Knowing that he will (“98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.”)
If at times, you feel like your sentences end with rhymes and your pocketbook has been strategically converted into a designer diaper bag equipped with more lovies than lipstick, then you may be on the way to creating your own story…
Full of laughter and tears,
Excitement and fears,
Gurgling goos and giggling gaas,
Story time with Daddies and lullabies with Mas.
Hopefully you’ll find that Boston Babies helps you on your way,
To living in the city with baby and enriching every day.
Take what you want, and leave what you don’t,
The goal is to learn, so concern you soon won’t.
Whether it is the best store to shop, or tips and practices you need,
I hope you enjoy your time and have fun while you read.
But please don’t forget you must do what feels right,
As you are the primary care giver in baby’s prime sight.
And of course please keep in mind, you must “Step with care and great tact
And remember that “Life’s a Great Balancing Act.”
