At times I feel that the role of “parent” should be most suitably played by a Dr. Seuss character…

Perhaps The Cat in the Hat

Can’t you see her juggling the diaper bag of supplies and gear,

Laundry and Diapers and Meals Oh My!

Her stroller and car seat, the pacifier near.
Her baby cook cooker and organic foods too,
Her breast pump and notes from all the mothers she knew.
Her book of “how tos” or maybe “how nots,”
Her sleep training guide and pediatrician’s best thoughts.

Or maybe the role should be given to the wondering, contemplative, yet confused nome like fellow in Oh The Places You’ll Go!

Traveling down winding roads,
Dodging all the diaper loads,
Struggling through sleepless nights,
Having many marital fights,
Deciphering between baby cries,
Worrying about baby’s growth size.
Wondering if, as a parent, he’ll actually succeed,
Knowing that he will (“98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.”)

If at times, you feel like your sentences end with rhymes and your pocketbook has been strategically converted into a designer diaper bag equipped with more lovies than lipstick, then you may be on the way to creating your own story…

Full of laughter and tears,
Excitement and fears,
Gurgling goos and giggling gaas,
Story time with Daddies and lullabies with Mas.

Hopefully you’ll find that Boston Babies helps you on your way,
To living in the city with baby and enriching every day.
Take what you want, and leave what you don’t,
The goal is to learn, so concern you soon won’t.

Whether it is the best store to shop, or tips and practices you need,
I hope you enjoy your time and have fun while you read.
But please don’t forget you must do what feels right,
As you are the primary care giver in baby’s prime sight.

And of course please keep in mind, you must “Step with care and great tact
And remember that “Life’s a Great Balancing Act.”

  1. Hi – looks like a fun site….just curious, who the author(s) is? A Boston mom or dad presumably….would be interested to know your story and what prompted you to create this blog. Thanks!!

    • Hi Deb:

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I created Boston Babies as a resource to families looking to raise their little one in the heart of the city. While the blog focuses on Boston, the best practices, where to shop/what to buy and other information is universal and I hope that even families outside of Boston/New England are finding Boston Babies useful and entertaining.

I am a new mom in Boston, and was inspired to create such a resource in an effort to help other moms/dads in the city find the information they need in a clear, user friendly format. My husband and I were one of the first of our friends to start a family, and I did a tremendous amount of research on products, classes, activities, etc. and often had other moms asking me for advice or suggestions as they began the, often times, overwhelming process. Since I am a writer, have a background in education and currently do freelance event planning and health/wellness classes in Boston, I decided Boston Babies was the next step in my professional pursuits.

Now I aim to serve as a one stop shop for families, whether they want to read upcoming information and best practices, participate in my health/wellness classes or attend my next event! I hope that you will find this to be a helpful and entertaining resource.

      Wishing you the best…
